Synopsis
LIBERATION traces the events of two moments of time. It’s 1970, and six women, all strangers to one another, get together at their local community center. In the center’s basement gym, these fearless women are determined to shake up their lives – and the world around them. Half a century later, their daughters all come together, piecing together what an earth happened. At its core, LIBERATION is a provocative, wonderfully theatrical world premiere that asks us vital questions about friendship, legacy, and what the true meaning of liberation is.

Creative Team
LIBERATION Is penned by Bess Wohl and directed by Whitney White. Award-winning playwright Bess Wohl is known and loved around the world for her jarring but moving plays, which are often artful and reveal more than meets the eye. Plays like Grand Horizons, Small Mouth Sounds, Make Believe, and Camp Siegfried have made Bess Wohl a popular fixture in the theater circuit over the past decade. Other works like the musical Pretty Filthy was such a hit with audiences and critics alike that it took home nominations at both the Drama Desk Awards and Lortel Awards.
Whitney White is also a gifted New York artist, clinching an Obie Award and directing the cutting-edge What to Send Up When it Goes Down, as well as productions at The Public Theater, Steppenwolf, and other leading theatres. Now, these two women are joining forces to narrate a story about sisterhood found in unexpected places, and the strong bonds we attempt to build.
